Reviewing the film for BBC, Neil Smith commented: "The lean and mean "Hollow Man" is everything we've come to expect from the director of the supremely underrated "Alien 3": smart, stylish and unafraid to take chances." Smith also noted that the film has a satanic undercurrent: ""Hollow Man" owes more than a little to satanic allegory, particularly in its depiction of the scientist hero’s gradual slide into destruction. It is this element that prevents it from being yet another empty exercise in technical virtuosity." On Rotten Tomatoes, critic audience gave it a 52%. The review aggregator Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 46 out of 100, based on 18 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews". "Entertainment Weekly" gave the film a C+. Smith remarked: "It's a shame that Fiennes can't really use his performance to show off his chops as an actor. The Hollow Man is strictly a physical role. He spends most of the time invisible and merely has to deliver lines from behind doors or from within walls." Smith also noted how disturbing it was to see people acting normally even though they cannot see each other. cfa1e77820
